During Mozambique’s 15-year civil war between the 70s and 90s, the Gorongosa National Park was a battleground.
The park used to be lush with greenery and was an Eden for animals, but soldiers on different sides of the conflict turned the wildlife upside down for food and drastically depleted it until the end of the war.
30 years later, the park is playing host to more than 102,000 animals — the highest ever on record.
Gorongosa National Park’s glory days are returning because the officials have protected the landscape and made it a sanctuary once again for animals which were almost driven to complete extinction.
