Rwanda sorts border disputes with Uganda, Burundi

When Rwanda made its new year resolution in January, “Make peace with your neighbours” must have been pretty high on the list.

The East African country reopened its Katuna border crossing with Uganda after shutting it down in 2019 over tense diplomatic relations.

The trade route is actually a money-maker for both countries and was worth $221 million in 2018. Reopening the border crossing should put money back into both their economies at a time when the world is facing a cost of living crisis.

Rwanda also made up with Burundi to bury a six-year diplomatic beef and reopen the border between both countries to resume beneficial trade relations.
