A Moroccan alpinist Bouchra Baibanou has made history as the first North African woman to climb the Annapurna, considered the world’s deadliest mountain.

Baibanou planted the Moroccan flag at the 10th highest peak in the world and earned a commendation from King Mohammed VI.

Baibanou also made history in 2019 as the first North African woman to climb the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. She started her first challenge by climbing Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro in 2011.
