Sheikh Ahmed El Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, Egypt’s highest authority on Sunni Islam, has appointed Dr Nahla Al Saeedy as an adviser.

Saeedy serves as El Tayeb’s adviser on foreign student delegations and expatriate affairs.

She’s reputable for her advocacy against underage marriage and the inability of women to travel without a man’s permission.

Saeedy is notably the first woman with an advisory role in Al Azhar’s 1,000 years of existence.
